Hello all My granddaughter needs to wear boots that support her feet and ankles but it is getting increasingly difficult to find any that fit as she has extremely long yet narrow feet. Any information on where to buy narrow fitting boots with ankle support will be most welcome. |

Has your doctor referred you to your local nhs Orthotic dept, they can order appropriate footwear |

Unfortunately not. Abigail was referred to the podiatrist by her paediatrician and OT - who originally told us she needed to wear walking boots. However, they were too heavy and clumpy for her so we had to compromise and found some timberland boots that were sturdy and offered good suport, Now though she has grown out of that range and the 'junior' sizes are wider and if anything clumpier. She has motor dyspraxia and hypermobile joints but unfortunately in our area they do not seem to supply specialist footwear on the NHS. Sorry it is such a long reply! I am getting quite frustrated with this - I have recently found some online but they cost over £100 a pair and whilst I don;t begrudge Abigail anything it seems rather a lot for footwear that she will grow out of shortly. |

I know it probably seems as though you need to fight for everything, but I would recommend you write to your health authority and your mp, good luck |

Hi there Marie Thanks for your reply and do you know what I might just do that! My granddaughter is seeing her podiatrist next week so I will wait to see what she says, but if there is no joy I will certainly take your advicehank you |

Your situation has kept me awake thinking about how unjust things are, I know it its difficult to always find the strength to fight on for things, but just remember the more of us who fight , maybe the next generation of young mums getting some heartbreaking news about their baby, might not need to fight so hard, and when you feel unable to fight be assured there is another thousand fighting on and when they take a break you will feel able to fight again. Maybe one day we will have cleared away all these hurdles or brick walls and we will be able to say in 50 years time, look what obstacle used to be there and is now not because of our fight. Hopefully it will be a clearer path for newly diagnosed children and their families and we can say we were part of that. Good luck and remember yo are not alone in your fight. |

Keep battling, if your grandchild has a special health need the nhs has a duty to provide for her, cliche cliche but it's what your taxes are paid for, remember that while in the appointment. |
