Google special needs catalogues. I bought most of my equipment from The Magic Planet ((TFH). However, check out your local pound shops, I buy loads in there, especially tactile resources. My latest is a microfibre cleaning mitt. I use it like a hand puppet and it glows in my UV light.

You can also search on ebay for items for special needs, can sometimes get things a bit cheaper

too great websites to purchase from:

http://www.sensorytoywarehouse.com/

and www.fledglings.org who not only have toys but loads of other useful items, they have a brochure online.

aslo ditto to ebay: tip: enter special needs, or autism or, autistic when searching for items

My son is also 16 and has severe and profound learning disabilities, so I understand the problem!

he loves anything with lights and music

a few bright ideas you've been sending us

  • Matching pairs game

Use a digital camera to make your own cards for this game. you can photograph your own matching pairs ie your dog, your home, family, etc You'll need two of each.

  • Blue tack

Carry a small piece of Blue tack or similar for your child to play with if they are fidgety and need to touch and play with something. They can make little men and characters or just roll it in their fingers.

  • Sensory flour games

I mix cornflour and water together and it makes a great sensory play tool. Also put flour into a plastic bag and seal it with some food colouring. As it gets squished round it will change colour.
